The 20th edition of the CP Holiday Train rolled into town last night on its last stop on the tour. Canadian rockers The Trews and American musician Willy Porter sang a few traditional Christmas songs and a few of their hits, all in an effort to raise donations for local food banks across Canada and the U.S.

Community ministries coordinator for the Weyburn Salvation Army Jennifer Lorinzcy said they raised about $4,000 in food and cash donations last night, including an annual $2,500 cash donation from Enerplus. Although the total was less than previous years when the City of Weyburn challenged local businesses to raise donations for the food bank, Lorinzcy said they are grateful for the continued support.

"Even though that challenge is no longer, they are still on board with it and still donate the money," said Lorinzcy.

The challenge was started by former Mayor Debra Button. The City would challenge local businesses to raise donations for the local food bank. The last challenge in 2015 against Barber Motors raised about $15,000 in food and cash.

Although this year's Holiday Train raised significantly less, Lorinzcy said she is very thankful that so many residents braved the cold to support the food bank and see the concert. The event raised about $550 in cash from the kettles plus 850 pounds of food donations, which equals $850. Enerplus donated $2,500 and CP Rail also made a $5,500 donation, putting the grand total raised for the Weyburn Food Bank at around $9,500.
