The Weyburn Leisure Services department is in the process of setting up a new, outdoor skating rink for the city. The skating rink is located in a lot on 2nd and Souris after the city struck a deal with John Hulbert Construction, allowing them to utilize the vacant lot in order to construct the temporary rink.

Director of Leisure Services for the City of Weyburn Andrew Crowe says that this is part of an effort to bring more people down to the downtown area.

While the rink was anticipated to be open to the public already, due to weather conditions construction has been delayed. Crowe says that they do plan to have the rink open and functioning as soon as the weather co-operates.

"The rink will be free of charge to use and will be open all hours of the day into the evening," said Andrew Crowe. "We just want to create an environment where families can teach their children to skate and just go for a skate"

Crowe adds they are hoping for businesses to reach out and set up events to help draw the public to the rink.
