87 miners from southeastern Saskatchewan had to spend the night underground after a vehicle fire filled the Rocanville Potash Mine with smoke.

Rocanvillie Potash Mine is 263 km from WeyburnThe small fire reportedly started in a vehicle used underground but generated a lot of smoke at 3:45pm on Wednesday, forcing staff to head to the emergency shelter. 

Some staff were able to leave prior to the fire at 11:30pm and the rest would finally come back to the surface around 5:30am Thursday morning.

Work was resumed an hour later and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
