A new face is gracing the halls of City Hall in Weyburn, as Roy Hardy takes over his role as city manager. Coming from Humboldt, where he served as city manager for the past three years, his first official day was Tuesday.

Hardy said when he first told people he was coming to Weyburn, they told him there are three things which never change in the city.

“The three thing that most people said was the KFC buffet, two was the water tower, and three is a really thriving community, and that’s true,” Hardy told reporters in his first meeting with the local media.

While he will be working with city council on bringing the strategic plan to life, and focussing its objectives, he understands city hall can’t do everything on its own.

“The city isn't in a position to do everything, and the city is getting less and less resources from provincial sources, and so that means that we have to look at some different ways of doing things together to make things happen,” Hardy explained.

He used the example of new softball diamonds which were recently built in Humboldt, which he helped to bring about. The city provided the land, the fencing, and the sod, while the extras for the diamond were built by the softball teams themselves.

Hardy will be spending much of the next few days getting to know the staff he will be working with, as well as City Council.
