Mayor Marcel Roy has declared June 17 to 23 to be Native Prairie Appreciation Week in Weyburn.

Megan Richter from the Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Plan was present for the reading and signing of the declaration at Monday's City Council meeting.

"The Prairie Conservation Action Plan encourages all Saskatchewan residents to go outside and explore the native prairie," said Mayor Roy. "Whether it's right in your backyard or a short drive to the country."

The week is dedicated to raising awareness and an appreciation of the valuable grassland ecosystems across Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Prairie Conservation Plan will have a booth at the Weyburn Farmer's Market on June 23.

The proclamation was made in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment.
