In late August the Canadian Government announces they would set aside a day specifically for honouring firefighters. National Firefighters Memorial Day will be held on the second Sunday of September going forward.

"This is a day to honour men and women who provide for the safety of the citizens of Weyburn and District from the devastation of fire, environmental, natural and man made emergencies," says Lisa Robertson, Volunteer Firefighter with the Weyburn Fire Department.

The City of Weyburn has a love and respect for firefighters as they know how much they mean for the community.

"The public acknowledges our members on a daily basis, whether we are fighting a fire or doing fundraising for various non-profit organizations or training," says Robertson.

Firefighters save lives, buildings and help raise awareness of fire safety in the community.

On Sunday, September 10th, take some time to thank a firefighter for all their hard work.
