October 18th was Credit Union Day, and the Weyburn Credit Union invited the public to participate in a group mural project.

At 2 p.m. today, an unveiling reception will welcome the public to view the new artwork. The mural came together as a polyptych with a total of 40 canvasses recreating an acrylic painting by Weyburn artist Tana Cugnet.

“The day was actually really good and lots of fun,” said VP of Marketing for WCU. “We had lots of people from the art community that came in, some staff members that helped us create the mural, and then we also had members of the public stop by just because they were interested.”

“I think everybody had a good time, a good visit, and, you know, got to be part of something bigger,” she added. “It’s right outside the Community Room. It’ll be highly visible there.”

Torkelson said the unveiling of the mural is happening today, which is open to the public.

“We’re just inviting everybody down to come and have a look at it, so you can have a coffee and have a little treat, and have a view of our new art piece.”

She said the installation is semi-permanent until perhaps another mural project is done in the future.
