Concept drawings of houses in Riverwood

Weyburn City Council is excited to move forward with the land sale of the former Souris Valley Hospital grounds with Nicor Developments.

At Monday's City Council meeting, the City approved Nicor's concept of the development they are calling Riverwood, however they did not approve the smaller lots just yet. The City will have to change some of their bylaws to make that available.

Nicor is looking at a 30-foot lot instead of the average 60-foot lots that the City allows now. With smaller lots they will have the possibility of more affordable housing.

"There is just a lot of potential out in that area for a wide variety of homes from the big executive style to apartments or condos, so Council is excited to see this. We are looking at about 600 new doors being brought out there in the next few years," explains Mayor Debra Button.

Button says the community needs 250 new doors every year to keep up with growth and they are at a zero-vacancy in Weyburn right now. This project will help to alleviate that situation.
