Arcola was the scene for the recent Moose Mountain Ag Day. It was held on Monday. One of the discussions of the day centred around intercropping, where a producer plants two different crops into the same field.

Lorne Klein is with the provincial Ministry of Agriculture. He explained the practice is similar to an old joke about mathematics.

“Sometimes you’ll hear that saying one plus one equals three, so that’s what intercropping is about, trying to get advantages from both crops, and hopefully reduce disease pressures as well,” Klein said.

He added the ministry is following this newer practice to see how it develops over time.
