A local priest is participating in a 100-kilometre bicycle ride this weekend to promote mental health. Reverend Brian Woods leads the All Saints Anglican Church in Weyburn and wants to help end the stigma around mental illness by speaking out.

"I do suffer from depression," shared Woods. "My congregation knows and I just feel that it's time for me to take action and just quit talking about it, so I'm going to get out there and do it. Hopefully, it won't be too hot and I'll do it in my clericals."

The fundraiser is called Ride Don't Hide and it's taking place across the country in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Woods will be participating in the Regina event on Sunday. He said he hopes Weyburn will hold its own Ride Don't Hide event in the future to support the local CMHA office.

Woods said he cycles a lot, recently participating in a 500-kilometre trek with the Anglican Bishop Rob Hardwick, Diocese of Qu'Appelle, who is travelling across the country praying for peace, unity and reconciliation. Woods said regular exercise is vital to his mental health.
