Just in time for the holiday season, Jerry Mainil Ltd. has made a generous donation to the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation. The storied Weyburn business gifted $5,000 to the foundation looking to bring a new hospital to Weyburn.

President Dennis Mainil was on hand to present a cheque to two members with the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation. The son of Jerry Mainil, Dennis wants his family's company to be able to give back to the local community.

"This is a company donation from Jerry Mainil Limited. In the past, we used to give gifts to our clients that we looked after. Going forward now, we found it more beneficial to try and give to the whole community," Mainil said. "By looking after the hospital, we felt that was a better benefit to all instead of just our select group of people we work for. We want to benefit everybody, not just the people we work for, but them and everyone else in the community."

With the company's donation right in the Christmas spirit, the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation has now raised well over $22 million dollars. The city is still awaiting the latest updates from the provincial government on what the next step is.

Mainil believes it's a worthwhile donation and is a foundation near and dear to his family.

"This foundation has been very special to us. Our parents made a generous donation several years ago. Being born and raised in Weyburn and my father being long-term in Weyburn, felt that Weyburn definitely needed a new hospital," Mainil explained. "We have lots of family members and we thought it was a good cause as something we wanted to put together. It was something my parents initiated it and it's something we as a company, with his name on it, want to continue forward."

The latest donation by a local business is just another example of the united community spirit Weyburn offers, especially at this time of year.
