The Weyburn Public Library Board held their Annual General Meeting last week.

Councillor Laura Morrissette, who sits on the WPL board, mentioned during Monday's regular meeting of Weyburn City Council that there are no more overdue fines being charged now at our library.

She explained this is something all libraries in the province are phasing into this due to the data.

"It's a pilot project, but they found that readership is actually up when those late fees aren't sort of looming over your head, so they think that this is going to be a successful process," she said.

That said, if your overdue materials are more than 30 days past due, you will be charged for the full replacement cost.

"So it's not a free pass, but it encourages more people to come and check out books, maybe for a little bit longer," she noted.

Morrissette also encouraged Weyburn's citizens to check out the take and make kits offered by the WPL.

"It's sort of a virtual process at the library has started to get people to come into the library, pick up their kits for whatever craft they're going to be making, and then you participate online with the programmer," she noted.
