The Weyburn Wildlife Federation is currently promoting the Saskatchewan Wildlife Fish Artwork Contest for students in Grades 4-6.

"They're holding the contest from April 1st to 30th of this year and it has to be done on an 8.5 by 11-inch paper," explained Tricia Kot, Youth Coordinator and Secretary for the Weyburn Wildlife Federation. "It can be coloured, black or white, painting, drawing or pastels. And they ask that you don't trace anything as they want to see your original ideas and work."

The contest is to feature native Saskatchewan fish species such as Walleye, Yellow Perch, Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Lake Sturgeon and Arctic Grayling.

"We have lots of lakes and rivers around so we thought this would be a good outdoor activity for them to get involved with, especially with COVID right now," Kot expressed. "And fishing is a good way to do it because it's so easy and I think the kids don't need a license for under 16."

She added that the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive a special fishing package from the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation.

You can find the official Fish Artwork Contest poster further down on this page for full details of how to take part and submit your fishy creations.

Right now the Weyburn Wildlife Federation is also holding a Scratch Card Raffle to raise funds for the club and various youth events as well.

"So we thought since this is when we usually hold our banquet and this is our major fundraiser for the year that we'd go ahead with our Scratch Card Raffle over the next three months," said Terra Hartly Ortman, PR Communications and Treasurer for the Weyburn Wildlife Federation. "What they are is a card that is either filled with 100 numbers or 50 lines. You then can pick your line from 1-50 or 1-100, depending on the card for that raffle item. As long as the line you picked hasn’t already been purchased you get that line. Then once all the lines are filled we will do a live post to reveal the number under the seal and announce the winner."

You can purchase as many lines as you want and they will be accepting cash, cheque or e-Transfer (send to weyburnwildlife@gmail.com) for all the scratch card raffles they have over the next few months.

Payment must be made before your name goes on the line, just so they can make sure everything is fair.

All of the proceeds will go back to the WWF programs they have set out for the year.
