It's a cost saving program, looking at keeping the City of Weyburn clean.

The City has been looking into automated refuse collection. A presentation was made to City council last night regarding the use of a new garbage pick-up program.

This would allow residents to place their garbage into a roll out bin for pick up instead of placing bags outside their homes.

According to Weyburn Mayor Debra Button this would cut down on injuries to workers, along with other maintenance that is currently taking place. Button says there would be a few other changes. "Right now there is a bylaw in place that you are only supposed to have six bags out for your garbage pick up, but the change would be that you would have to take your roll out bin to the front because we would have no more back lane pick up. We would have to set times and perimeters about when that roll out bit would have to be off the front street. If you recycle, they are telling us, this will be about the same as you can fit about four to five garbage bags in that bin."

If planning was starting right away, Button says this could take effect as early as January of 2011.
