While the thoughts of hockey and ice skating may seem a far way off, especially with the weather we have been experiencing as of late, for staff at Crescent Point Place, right now is just the time to start thinking of subzero temperatures.

“We’re actually looking at having our ice installed and open to our users by August 9th in Crescent Point Place,” explained Andrew Crowe, the director of leisure services with the City of Weyburn. “So, we’ve actually already turned on the ice plant and the ice-making process is now underway.”

While it may seem quite a few days out from when they want to have the ice installed, Crowe explained it is a bit of an involved process. They need to turn on the ice plant to cool the facility down, as well as the slab. The lines need to be painted on amongst the various layers of ice. Then there are the various logos that are on the ice as well.

“A lot of the logos that we do are actually hand-painted so it is quite time-consuming,” Crowe added.

While the ice will need to be installed early next month for various hockey camps, what about Tom Zandee Sports Arena?

Crowe explained that will be in about a month’s time before they start the process over there.

“The 10th of September, we’re aiming for that weekend,” Crowe stated. “We plan to have it open in time for minor hockey when they begin their tryouts.”
