The Weyburn Humane Society held their Annual General Meeting last night at Hilltop Manor on South Hill.

One of the items reported on was the plans for a new shelter.

"We got a little excited in November/December and we looked at some spots that could be a possibility for a shelter," explained Pam Arndt-Schick, President, Weyburn Humane Society.

"But then we went and crunched our numbers and decided we needed to fundraise a little bit more to make ourselves a bit more secure so its still on hold and we are going to continue to fundraise. It's still our dream to have a new shelter."

The original building has been in place since 1991 and was a garage package.

The Humane Society's plan is to have a building which is at least 2,000 feet.

"We need kennels, we need extra rooms for the cats. We need a staff room. We don't have a staff room so it would be nice to have that, and just extra storage," added Arndt-Schick.

The Humane Society also received a positive report from the SPCA

The representative from the SPCA looked around and said Weyburn has the cleanest Humane Society in the province.
