Environment Canada has lifted the heat warning that was issued last week for the Weyburn area.

The humidex was up in the upper 30s over this past weekend. This means that, even when it’s 30 degrees, it can feel like a 39 degree wall of heat, due to the relative humidity.

“It’s not uncommon to get heat waves that last four or five days, that actually reach warning criteria,” said Mike McDonald with Environment Canada.

He defined what the criteria is for a heat warning being issued in southern Saskatchewan.

“Temperatures of at least 32 degrees or warmer, and an overnight low of temperatures of 16 degrees or warmer and humidex values of 38 degrees or more. This has to last two days or more. It’s a combination of daytime heating and the fact that it doesn’t really cool off at night, doesn’t really give you the chance to cool off,” he explained.

McDonald said that, throughout the heat wave, there were no heat-related health issues reported to Environment Canada.
