The highway is clear now but at least one Weyburn family is still living with the trauma of a collision on Highway 39 which occured heading into the long weekend.

Tyler Schepens was taken to Regina by STARS Air Ambulance Friday evening after the vehicle he was driving collided with another. He has a long recovery ahead of him according to family friend Ammie Parisien.

"We're just thankful that Tyler is alive. By the looks of the car and whatnot, the wreckage, he is very, very lucky to be alive. And thankfully the girl he was with, Cody, is pretty unharmed. Her arm got a small injury to it but nothing compared to what it could have been," said Parisien.

Schepens broke his femur in four places and also his ankle in the collision.

Parisien set up an online GoFundMe fundraiser to help the family cover expenses such as travel and food while Schepens receives treatment. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fundraiser had already brought in more than $600 with a final goal of raising $5,000. CLICK HERE to donate to the online fundraiser for the Schepens.

Parisien said she will also take cash donations to help the family. She said those who would prefer to donate cash can bring their donations to her home at 913 Bison Avenue in Weyburn.
