From Regina to Mexico, there is an important trade corridor.

The Central North American Trade Corridor Association met in Minot this week and Weyburn Mayor, Marcel Roy was there with the Mayor of Estevan.

"They are talking about how to promote trade, how to build a highway, the whole corridor, from the Global Hub right from Regina, all the way down into Mexico," explained Mayor Roy.

Mayor Roy went with Mayor Roy Ludwig of Estevan to promote trade and discuss how to make the corridor better.

"And by making it better, talking about what the future is. Autonomous vehicles are going to be used on that corridor, border crossings etc."

Mayor Roy explained how Weyburn needs to be prepared for the autonomous vehicles which he says will be traveling on the roads

"Not 'maybe traveling' but 'are going to be' because that's the future that's whats happening and it's rolling out very, very quickly and quicker than what most people are expecting," said Weyburn's Mayor.

Mayor Roy talked about the possible benefits to Weyburn.

"The biggest one would be that because we are on this trade corridor we should be marketing our selves and attracting businesses to come in to set up in here as assembly plants because there is this corridor that can bring them all the way down. So Assembly plants or receiving stations for products to be used within this whole area."

There is a futuristic convention in Estevan in April and Mayor Roy believes should be very interesting and should be held on a regular basis because technology is developing rapidly and people need to see the opportunities for the community.

You can foresee how these autonomous vehicles are going to be running. they are going to be running in our cities, they are going to be running on the highways.
It may not be in the next two or three years but it will most certainly be within the next ten years."
