Students, parents, and staff are gathered outside the Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division offices in Weyburn. They are there in support of Wade Oberg as he appeals a decision by the board to remove him from the position as principal Weyburn Comprehensive School. The appeal is being heard as part of a special meeting of the school division’s board of trustees.

Chad Fletcher is one of the more than forty people who turned out to support Oberg. He said he came out to show support for the ousted principal.

“He was there for us, and our family when we really needed it,” Fletcher said. “It was just so important for us at a time when we really needed someone, and I just feel like it’s important that the people that are voting for this, that they know how important he is for us and our community.”

Students were also there, including Jillian and Gabby.

Alluding to the alleged incident which took place during a volleyball tournament earlier in the school year, Gabby said she felt it wasn’t fair for something which should have impacted his coaching position to have an impact on his principalship.

“We’re here just to show our support for Mr. Oberg, and have as many bodies here as possible to make a statement we are here, ready to support him, no matter what happens,” added Jillian.

It was announced at the regular board meeting on November 22nd Oberg was removed as principal of the school through a decision made at a special meeting of the board on November 1st. There has been no word provided by the school division as to why they made the decision to relieve him of the principal duties.
