The Souris River Rodeo just wrapped up their weekend of fun and entertainment in Weyburn.

This fun filled event was put on by the Weyburn Agricultural Society and on the first day admissions to the grounds were free for all ages to enter.

The Wild Rose Shows inc. Midway was extremely busy all throughout all three days and nights. Children were excitedly burning their energy by flying around on rides, while adults had their inner children brought out by the various carnival rides and games.

"The Midway was fantastic," said Clayton Schira, President for the Souris River Rodeo. "Saturday we had an excellent turnout, but Sunday it was a bit quieter. Probably due to the heat as it was extremely hot yesterday."

The Souris River Rodeo performances saw some fully packed grandstands with spectators looking on at all of the excitement that the CCA and MRCA approved rodeo had to offer them. With events such as barrel racing, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, saddle bronc, team roping , bareback and bull riding, onlookers were sure to be fully entertained.

"The CCA Rodeo went very well," added Schira. "We had over 300 contestants this year, which is our largest entry in a long time. We had beautiful weather and a lot of highly skilled athletes out playing their games."

The Dairy Queen Kid's Rodeo kicked off the weekend full of cowboy athleticism with a stellar group of young up-and-comers displaying their hard-earned skills for the excited crowd to see. The children had fun barrel racing, flag racing, stick horse racing, key hole racing and getting to cool off with the water balloon race as well.

"The Dairy Queen Kid's Rodeo went fantastic," said Schira. "We had 32 entries and a waiting list of a lot more kids that could've put in. We just didn't have the space for them all, or the time. They enjoyed their prizes and the fun games that they got to play."

The Souris River Roping Jackpot started off on the first night and ran throughout the course of the weekend.

"There were 182 teams entered in the Souris River Roping Jackpot," stated Schira. "It went really well. We had a bit of a late start, but once we got rolling it was a lot of fun and everybody was happy with that too."

On Saturday night, local band The Yahoos took the stage in the curling rink for all who attended the Souris River Rodeo Cabaret to rock out to.

"The Cabaret went quite well," expressed Schira. "People that were there had a lot of fun, enjoyed the music and a very good time."

All throughout the weekend rodeo, The One Guy and a Grill food truck was grilling up all sorts of delicious foods and snacks for visitors to gobble up and savor.

As well, the 306 Creamery truck was serving up tasty and refreshing ice cream treats and cones to satisfy vistor's sweet tooths.

"Both of them were very happy with the turnout as well," said Schira. "They provided excellent meals and deserts for everyone who attended."

The potential worlds longest cribbage board was on the grounds for anyone to view, as well as play a game if they chose to do so.

The weekend long event drew in a large crowd made up of locals as well as many visitors from various other locations.

Overall, the weekend was a huge success that educated and entertained all of the attendees.
