There will be an opportunity this weekend for residents and visitors of Saskatchewan to dip their line in any public waters open to sport fishing, with no license required.

If you have ever wanted to give fishing a try but don’t know how to get started, be sure to take advantage of this unique experience.

"This doesn't include national parks but any of the public provincial waters that are open to sport fishing are available this weekend," explained Murray Koob, Sport Fishing Specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment.

He added that all other regulations are still in place though including COVID-19 public health orders, catch limit and size, and taking fish out of the province. You can read the province's list of regulations for angling HERE.

A Saskatchewan summer tradition since 1989, Free Fishing Weekend serves to increase public awareness about the rich and diverse angling opportunities available in the province. With more than 250,000 people sport fishing in Saskatchewan each year, Free Fishing Weekend is the perfect time for those new to fishing, or those interested in developing their skills.

"Go out and enjoy your selves. Take your family and friends along if you want. This is actually part of a national initiative called National Fishing Week which is put on by all provinces and territories across the country. It's really designed to allow Canadians to get outside and enjoy our angling heritage. So this is the 32nd year that we have been offering this free fishing weekend in Saskatchewan."
