A slippery suspect was eventually caught by police after an "on again, off again" foot pursuit in the downtown core last week, according to the latest report from the Weyburn Police Service.

Police received a call about a suspicious vehicle driving around the east industrial area on April 16 at about 6 p.m. They eventually located the driver downtown when he hopped out of the car and ran off.

"So we began a foot pursuit, lost the person, that happened a couple more times and in the meantime, we became aware that the vehicle he was in was stolen so he became arrestable," explained Deputy Chief Rod Stafford.

The suspect was eventually located and charged with driving while suspended, break and enter, being unlawfully at large, possession of methamphetamine, being unlawfully in a dwelling, possession of proceeds of crime and resisting arrest.

Stafford said they believe the 37-year-old male suspect from Regina was here to commit property crimes and thefts. He was also found to have numerous warrants in other cities and towns in the southeast.

"There was a number of warrants out for him for similar offences with RCMP detachments and at least two city police services, Regina and Moose Jaw I believe, and, of course, he was remanded on our charges and they will be dealing with their warrants. The exact nature of their warrants I don't know," shared Stafford.
