The Weyburn Fire Service capped off Fire Prevention Week by setting up at the Wholesale Club and Prairie Sky Co-op Saturday.

They brought one of their trucks to each location so the public could get a closer look at the equipment used to serve the community. While there, they also handed out colouring books and pamphlets on fire safety while giving the public tips on how to prevent fires.

"Making sure the smoke detectors are working properly and making sure they get in the habit of testing them. We recommend monthly. It's as simple as pressing a button and hearing a beep," on-call firefighter Don Struthers said. "We suggest picking someone's birthday in the family and changing the batteries on their birthday. That way it becomes a habit and always gets done."

Struthers added that the Weyburn Fire Service is looking for more volunteers as they are four people behind being fully staffed. Anyone interested in volunteering can call 306-848-3240, or drop by the Fire Hall at 55 16th Street to apply.
