The Weyburn Fire Department wrapped up Fire Prevention Week with an open house Saturday complete with food, demonstrations and fun for the whole family.

They may have even gained some future firefighters, evidenced by the excitement of the children who attended and got a chance to sit in the fire truck. But the fire department is hoping to recruit new staff a little sooner and even had application forms at the open house. Captain Michael Kaip said they are currently recruiting for paid, on-call firefighters.

"They can actually come on with zero training. If they have some it's better, you know, CPR, H2S kind of stuff," shared Kaip.

He said new recruits will be paid to take their training through the fire department. Anyone interested can contact the fire hall.
