It's just over five weeks until Christmas Day and it's time to start getting into the Christmas Spirit. One surefire way to do that in Weyburn is by attending the Festival of Trees, which is put on every year by the Family Place.

There are some changes to note this year. The Festival of Trees will be in a new building and have a couple of date changes. The New Age Motorsports building will be the host venue in 2018, with the Auction Gala taking place on the evening of Thursday, November 29.

Dawn Gutzke is one of the organizers and helps run the Family Place.

"November 19 to 21, that's a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, those are the days we are going to open for set up. Come in and bring your silent auction items down to us. Bring your tree and set up from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m." Gutzke explained. "Thursday, November 22 is the first day we are going to be open to the public for viewing. We would like to invite everyone from the community down. Come and check out the amazing trees and bid on the silent auction items you love."

It's the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Family Place and something they look forward to every year. As always, there will be plenty of creative tree designs and some raffle prizes to give away. As the Holiday season quickly approaches it's one of the ways to get Christmas in the air.

Another way is by visiting Santa Claus at the Festival. The big man himself will be taking some time off from his busy schedule and stopping at New Age on November 27. He'll be available for pictures from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Gutzke and fellow organizer Judy Lumb always get excited for the event this time of year. They say it's always a fun and enjoyable experience.

"We can't do this event without the community. People are so creative and donate these big, beautiful trees and they donate silent auction items," Gutzke said excitedly. "Then we have another amazing group of people who come in and bid on all this stuff. This event is truly what keeps our doors open at the Family Place, we rely on this one event every single year. It's so important to us and we want to thank the community for their continued support in this event."
