The Weyburn Fire Department has had a very busy week. They toured schools and homes to celebrate and recognize "Fire Prevention Week". Saturday was the final day of the prevention week and saw the Weyburn Fire Hall host an open house.

"The public sees us in our emergency situations but now, this is our home and this is where we work out of and we welcome people into our home once a year," says Weyburn Fire Chief Simon Almond.

Attendees could try on gear, handle equipment and watch demonstrations. One of the demonstrations saw the Weyburn Fire Department using tools to remove dummies from a vehicle. The department worked as a team and kept calm, treating the 250-pound dummies with careful attention.

Some of the crowd donned helmets and jackets and used the tools with firefighter supervision.

"We've had about a 100 people through so far, good age range so you know we've had babies all the way up to 90," says Weyburn Fire Chief Simon Almond.

Chief Almond notes that of the houses they entered few had working smoke detectors. The Weyburn Fire Department will now be working on a plan to improve that.

Fire Prevention Week is a great reminder of how to react in a dangerous fire situation and see how the Weyburn Fire Department works.\
