Local children with intellectual disabilities will have many different options to choose from when it comes to summer activities.

Inclusion Weyburn has released a full schedule for next month that is packed with fun Weyburn & area events that all ages and abilities are welcome to register for.

Aside from what is coming up they also took the kids to visit with the Weyburn Police yesterday with two trips planned for today where all of the children will get to meet and learn from local firefighters.

"We had a fun tour there with the Constable who showed us around. He was really good with the kids and patient," shared Jackie Wilson, President of Inclusion Weyburn. "Of course they met the dog which is always something they love. He was a very nice black lab and the kids sure liked him. They got to see the cars and the lights and around the station. We met the Chief of Police and it was all good and fun."

There will be one group of children heading to the Weyburn Fire Department in the morning today and the second group will head there in the afternoon.

"These visits with the Police and Firefighters are so good for the kids and it's also nice for the Officers to see these kids and get to know them a little bit," Wilson expressed. "We want our Officers to be prepared to help them as much as they can be. So these contacts are really nice to have."

She added that with the Government of Saskatchewan's expansions of funding for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder there will be more people in the community that can access those funds but said that she hopes to see the age range go up even further.

"The problems won't go away when they're older so we sure hope that they will continue to increase that age."

For the month of August Inclusion Weyburn hopes to see as many individuals with intellectual disabilities get the opportunity to get outside and have fun.

That is why they are continuing to offer their Respite Care program throughout the summer alongside their programs.

"All children are asked to have a parent or supervisor with them and some will be accompanied by our Respite staff," stated Wilson. "So your supervisor could be one of our Respite Care workers. So there are lots of opportunities for your children to get out and enjoy their summer days."

You can send an email to inweysummerprogram@gmail.com to register for any of the upcoming activities or if you would like more information.
