Southeast Newcomer Services is hosting 50 Vital Community Conversations, which will strive to engage new Canadians in their southeast Saskatchewan communities.

"The grant is through the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation," explained Stephanie Davis with Southeast Newcomer Services. "It's a grant for 50 conversations to get your community involved and vital conversations. So, we've picked three locations that target mostly our newcomers, [but] it is open to the whole community. So, we have one in Weyburn, Estevan, and Oxbow. And so we are just going to get the community involved along with the newcomers in the English class. We're going to ask some vital questions about community, about support, about any concerns, anything that's going to get them involved."

Davis said they were excited to receive this year's grant, which is being offered through the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation in honour of their 50th anniversary.

"I know that probably a lot of people applied for the grant, we are very fortunate and happy that we were chosen. I think it's important that Canada and the locals hear from our new Canadians about how they feel about the community."

"I think it is important to get our new Canadians involved in the community, see what their concerns are and help them feel more at home. Help them get settled in and become new Canadians," said Davis.

The 50 Vital Community Conversations will take place in Weyburn at Southeast College on February 28 at 6:30 p.m., in Estevan on March 5 at Spruce Ridge School at 6:30 p.m., and in Oxbow on March 12 at Oxbow School at 6 p.m.
