The Weyburn Fire Department and Ambulance were on scene at a downtown fire late this afternoon at an apartment building at the corner of Coteau Avenue and Fourth Street.

Fire Chief Simon Almond said it was a kitchen fire, but it was extinguished quickly using an on-scene fire extinguisher and one from the fire truck.

He noted that the entire apartment block had to be ventilated because the fire doors had been left open.

"Fire doors are meant to be closed, that's what they're there for," Almond said.

The occupant was treated by EMS for smoke inhalation and there were no more reported injuries.
