As Deputy Chief Brent VanDeSype with the Weyburn Police Service said "the week was probably a little bit more busy than normal," he then went on to say that he didn't know why this was.

The week that the Deputy Chief referred to was from September 6th until the 12th and it certainly was busy as officers ended up laying 20 different charges. Four were under the Traffic Safety Act, four under the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act, one under the City of Weyburn bylaws, and 11 under the Criminal Code of Canada.

There were quite a few vehicle-related incidents that the Weyburn Police Service dealt with throughout the week as well.

"On Wednesday afternoon, Police responded to an emergency medical situation involving a suspected drug overdose that was an adult male," VanDeSype shared. "EMS personnel also attended and they were able to revive the individual. It was a very fortunate case."

That same day Police also visited a local residence at the request to remove an unwanted guest that was refusing to leave. Upon their arrival, the occupants told them that the guest had left willingly after the call to the Police was made.

"So as the result of an ongoing investigation officers executed a search warrant on a local residence towards the end of last week," stated VanDeSype. "As a result, an adult male is facing charges including trafficking, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime."

The male was released with an upcoming court date set in Weyburn.

"On the weekend there were a few calls, kind of more the bylaw nuisance calls, a few of them involving dogs," VanDeSype shared. "One of the owners had been warned previously and so in this incident they were charged under the bylaw."

Then on Sunday, a man was found to be breaching a condition of his release. He was charged accordingly and then released with an upcoming court date set to determine his fate.

Police also responded to a call involving two heavily intoxicated individuals that were passed out in a public area.

"They just overindulged a little bit too much," stated VanDeSype. "One was around 2:00 a.m. where they were passed out on the street. They were just taken into custody for their own safety and held in cells here until they were sober and released without charge. The second incident was just a couple of hours later where this individual was located in somebody's back yard. Again they were just taken into custody and held overnight until they were sober."
