The suspect who attempted to evade police by allegedly ramming a police cruiser and nearly running down an officer appeared in custody in Weyburn Provincial Court today.

Twenty-one-year-old Destinee Klassen of Weyburn is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, aggravated assault of a peace officer, operating an unregistered vehicle, and several counts of flight from police. The charges stem from an incident in the wee hours of Sunday morning when police attempted to capture Klassen in the East Weyburn 7-11 parking lot. Police said the vehicle and driver were wanted at the time for an earlier incident of flight from police.

When police approached the vehicle being driven by Klassen, she allegedly rammed a Weyburn Police Service vehicle and then attempted to run over the officer when he exited the cruiser to make an arrest. A second Weyburn Police Service vehicle on the scene was also struck head-on.

Klassen's case has been adjourned to Thursday in Estevan Provincial Court to give her time to obtain legal counsel. She will remain in police custody.
