It's been ten years since Travis Price and David Shepherd of Nova Scotia took a stand against bullying in their school. In 2007, one of their classmates was being bullied because he wore a pink shirt to school. Within days, Price and Shepherd had convinced a number of school mates to come to school in pink shirts to show solidarity with the student and take a stand against the bullying that was happening in their school.

Today, a decade later, Pink Shirt Day (also know as the Red Cross Day of Pink) is a world wide anti-bullying movement that encourages respect and kindness.

Every year Red Cross encourages community members in Weyburn, and around the province, to purchase a Day of Pink shirt, with the proceeds going to their Respect Education and Imagine No Bullying campaigns. Those campaigns help bring education and awareness to the issue in schools.

With the Day of Pink being today, schools in Weyburn decided to make last week their Kindness/Bullying Awareness weeks, as they are out of school for winter break. The school had a variety of events planned, all targetted to bring the students closer to each other and to spread kindness and respect. You can see more from their activites, including a performance by Hoja, in the video below.

Today, community members and businesses alike are encouraged to wear Pink to show their support for those being bullied and to imagine a world with no bullying.
