Weyburn’s 'Plant A Tree' program raises funds and ensures the development and enhancement of Weyburn's urban forest.

As a way of honouring or commemorating a person or group, residents can have a bench installed, or a tree planted, along the Tatagwa Parkway. Names are permanently recorded and displayed on an engraved plaque at City Hall.

“The trees will be planted in various areas throughout the Parkway,” said Weyburn City Councillor Jeff Chessall. “Then you’ll get your name on a plaque in City Hall for recognition.”

Prices range from $50 for a shrub to $250 for an evergreen tree. Benches can be installed for $1,500.

“For the benches, you’ll actually have a plaque right on the bench, which is pretty cool,” he added.

The trees are planted and maintained by the Parks Department.

“Maybe it’s as simple as a Christmas for that someone you don’t know what to buy for them,” said Chessall.

Whatever the reason for planting a tree, it benefits the vista and the air quality for future generations, while creating a lasting legacy.
