It is a pilot project to help bring more rental space to the city of Weyburn.

On Monday, city council gave approval to allowing for basement suites t be built into a few of the duplexes being built along Saskatchewan Drive as part of the Riverwood development project. The approval came with a few conditions that have been factored into the design plan.

The key condition is that there must be off-street parking included for the suites. This was facilitated in the plan by expanding the existing parking spaces for the duplexes. The parking, in accordance with bylaw, is in the rear of the houses, and is only accessible via the back alley. The owners of the property will have to maintain access in the winter on their own.

The plan for the developer is to have the framing complete by the winter, so that they can work on the interiors, and then the houses should be complete in the early spring.
