The recent rains have helped boost the level at Nickle Lake. As a result, Weyburn City Council voted on an amendment to the city’s water conservation bylaw to allow for an extra day of watering for residents. The vote for the amendment was unanimous.

Residents on odd-numbered houses will now be able to water on Saturdays, in addition to Mondays and Thursdays. For those with even-numbered addresses, watering will be on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays. No water is allowed on Wednesdays, and the hour restrictions remain in place.

“Right now the water has come up, which is very good, but it was the type of thing that we were very, very fortunate that this happened, but we still have to get into this conservation mode,” explained Mayor Marcel Roy after the meeting.

The restrictions will remain in place for the spray parks in the city, according to City Manager Mathew Warren. They will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Weyburn has received over 110 millimetres of rain so far in June. This has allowed the levels at Nickle Lake to climb up to the levels the Water Security Agency considers to be full.
