The Weyburn & District United Way will host the second annual Concert Jam event this Saturday at Cugnet Centre from 1:00  to 10:00 p.m.

The event is a kick-off to the Communithon season, which is the main fundraiser for the Weyburn & District United Way's 13 member agencies.

The August 25th event will feature musical performances by Stef Cameron, Rugged Little Thing, Men Without Shame, Rock Candy, Wool Tree Grove, Little Miss Higgins and the night will finish off with Dead Levee. Each group performs for about an hour with 15-minute breaks between sets. Each of the groups will have tables for merchandise sales and to meet with the fans.

Advance tickets are being sold at various locations including Music Craft and Old Fashion Foods, for $20. Tickets are $30 at the door. Catering for the licensed event will be by Captain's Hall and will feature a pulled pork dinner.

"The bleachers are going to be pushed back, so we're going to have tables on the floor for people can sit," said Kraft. "We're going to have a dancing area for people who want to get up and dance to the music."

She added seating will also be available in the mezzanine.

"It's going to be good food, great entertainment, drinks available, it's going to be a great event," she said.

"No flash photography for the event," she noted, adding that recording a snippet is fine for sharing social media, but a lot of the music is copyrighted. "We encourage people to pay respect to the artists."

Kraft said that she hopes the event inspires people to start thinking about volunteering for this year's Communithon.

"We really encourage people to start thinking about Communithon itself," she said. "Start thinking about volunteering for Communithon. Start thinking about entertainment for Communithon."

Forms for entertainers can be found on the Weyburn & District United Way website.

"Communithon itself is an aired telethon that happens on Friday, October 19th," she explained. "It features local entertainers, with the main feature being those cute, little, adorable school kids throughout the day. That is our way of raising the money our member agencies need to offer their programs and their services to the families of Weyburn."

Kraft said the huge fundraising event will still require more volunteers.

"Trust me, there's a lot of chairs slots that could be filled, so if any volunteers are interested, and want to pitch in and want to provide their help, Communithon is really unique. It really takes a village to put on the Communithon," she urged. "We have roles in security, roles in food, entertainment, staging, cameras, finance, and working with the member agencies."

"Communithon wouldn't be possible without the many volunteers we have, so if anybody is interested in volunteering for Communithon, taking on a larger responsibility of being a chair of one of our committees, I highly encourage them to contact me and find out more information," said Kraft.
