We all need gas in our tanks, so why not buy it today. September 18 marks the Co-op’s annual Fuel Good Day which takes place across all of Western Canada. Ten cents for every litre of gas pumped will be donated to a charity of the local Co-op’s choice.

Don Kraft is the general manager for Prairie Sky Co-op here in Weyburn. He says the money being raised this year will benefit two separate charities.

“In Weyburn here, we've chosen the Animal Shelter and we've chosen the United Way,” Kraft said.

Kraft is the GM of four different Co-op’s in Saskatchewan and loves being able to give back to the communities. It’s actually one of the core mandates of the company.

“It's very important for us. On our value statement, community is one of the values we have," he said. "We feel it's part of our role as a business to make life better in each of the communities we serve.”

Aside from United Way and Animal Shelter, Kraft’s Co-op's will be donating to other great causes. His Milestone store is donating to the swimming pool project, the Beaubier branch is donating to Lake Alma Rec Center and the Lang Co-op will donate the money they raise to the Fire Department.

Fuel Good Day is an annual event, but Co-op has other yearly events that help give back as well.

“Fuel Good Days is an annual event we do once a year, however, we do participate in programs similar to this. We do get involved with all the other charities," Kraft said. "We also do participate in what we call 'Bags to Riches.' Instead of selling bags to our customers, if our customers are using reusable bags, we actually will donate two cents to every bag they use to a local charity we pick each month."

Fuel Good Day runs all day today until the Co-op Gas Bar closes at 8:00 p.m. Last year over half a million dollars was donated by Co-op collectively.

Kraft encouraged everyone to come out and support some great causes.
