The Weyburn Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association receives grant funding to help cover the staff wages for its Youth Theatre program. “We have received funding again from Community Initiatives Fund, which will be allowing us to continue with the youth theatre program this coming year,” said Program Director Tasha Collins. Collins noted that the funding is critical. “The majority of our funding is for adult programming, so without that funding from CIF, we don’t have a youth theatre program,” she said, adding that the program has garnered a good deal of buzz around Weyburn in a positive way. The goal of the theatre program is to encourage self-esteem, confidence, inclusion, and leadership all while developing new performance skills. The program runs from September to May. Registration begins around mid-September.
