After nearly 20 years as the city manager with the City of Weyburn, Bob Smith will be leaving the position on March 17th. His official notice was presented to Mayor Marcel Roy, and Weyburn City Council, Tuesday.

Smith will be taking on a new job as city manager in Warman.

He has served as Weyburn City Manager since October, 1997. "The management team here has been excellent to work with." Smith told Discover Weyburn. "Very professional, top notch people. The staff are dedicated to the city. You know, those are going to be some of the things that are very difficult to leave." he added.

Smith is hoping to benefit from the positive experience here in his new job. "You know, I am looking for a new opportunity in a fast-growing community and I hope I can take my experience with me and help them."

Over the years, Smith has worked with many city councils in Weyburn. He had nothing but praise for all of them. "They all have different visions for the community, for each council that comes along." said Smith. "They are elected to provide that vision and that guidance to the adminisration and it is up to us to carry it out. So it isn't actually that difficult because all the people that are putting their name for the council have one thing mind, and that's the best interest of the community."

Speaking on behalf of Weyburn City Council, Mayor Marcel Roy noted Smith’s skills, attitude, work ethic and leadership have been exemplary.

“He will be greatly missed by the city and the community, but we congratulate him for an outstanding career with the City, and wish him well as he pursues new professional and personal interest,” Roy said in a prepared release.

The City of Weyburn’s Employee Relations Committee will appoint an acting city manager prior to Smith’s departure. After that, the official process to find his replacement will begin.
