The City of Weyburn is in the planning stages for the Weyburn Recreation and Cultural Centre. It will be constructed in tandem with the new elementary school facility on the site of the former Weyburn Junior High School.

“Right now we’re in planning to do a new multi-purpose facility,” said City Manager Matthew Warren.

He notes that plans include a multi-purpose indoor sports facility, with a second-level track and gym space, as well as a multi-simulator space.

Since the arts are prevalent in Weyburn, the offices, work space, pottery studio and gallery will move from Signal Hill Arts Centre to the new facility.

“We’ll have a brand new, state of the art gallery,” said Warren.

“We haven’t sold naming rights for it,” he added, noting that planning for the new facility is 66 percent complete.
