The City of Weyburn received seven bids for a culvert replacement project along highway thirty-nine between 3rd Street and Government Road.

"Out of the seven contractors there were two or three which were more local and local competitors tend not to have to bring in equipment, bring in staff in order to do that," explained Roy Hardy, Weyburn City Manager.

"Sometimes that can have a very positive impact for the city, not only because its a lower cost but also because that work is being done by local contractors and it keeps the tax dollars being used in the city and being recirculated that way."

NT Excavating won the bid at around $32,000. Their bid was nearly one-third of the budget for the project of $100,000.

The company outbid A and B Concrete and Swayze Concrete, the two other local businesses.

The work will start the first week of March.

"We have a limited time for doing this work because we have an aquatic habitat permit so we have to abide by a certain permit to do this work," noted Nadar Keshta, City Engineer.

There will be detours around the worksite for the duration of the project.
