Weyburn's Landfill was a topic of discussion at last week's City Council. The plans are still in the preliminary stages and will require more information before council can make a firm decision.

"The plan provides a long term management plan that maximizes the design life of the Weyburn Landfill," says Laura Delanoy, Weyburn's Assistant Engineer. "It provides a life cycle cost for landfill operation, strategy in reducing operating costs, and practices to maintain with environmental compliance with environmental agency requirements."

The report will also have details on 5 and 6 phase filling plan for the closure of the old landfill.

"This is a definite step forward in ensuring the sustainability of this particular aspect of City operations and actually takes the burden of the taxpayer, who at this point are probably only putting in less than quarter of the amount that goes into that landfill at the end of the day, so I think it's a proper move," says Weyburn City Manager, Roy Hardy.

Sperling Hanson Associated will make a presentation at Weyburn's City Council on December 11th to compare the proposed plans and answer any questions. This presentation is open to the public and will give Weyburn citizens and Weyburn Council a better understanding of the plan moving forward.
