Car seats aren’t always installed correctly, and sometimes the wrong car seat is being used. To help remedy the situation for families who may need it, the Weyburn RCMP detachment and Traffic Services will be holding a car seat clinic Tuesday. The event will take place in the parking lot at Canadian Tire.

The RCMP Traffic Services received a $1,250 grant through SGI and the Saskatchewan Safety and Prevention Council for the purchase of the car seats.

“These car seats are for the families that are in need of them, and for the situations where they’re required,” said Constable Adele Breen, adding that the car seats are freely given in situations where an urgent need requires one.

“There are times during enforcement that we do encounter people with car seats that are either improper sizes for their child, or they may not be installed correctly, they are either damaged or sometimes they’re expired,” she explained. “If we ever come upon a situation where we have a car seat like that, then we’re able to install the car seat for the family so they’re able to leave the scene with a proper car seat, properly installed for their child.”

The event will run from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
