With the summer season in full swing, people are more inclined to spend the evening around a campfire.

Whether it's in your backyard or at your campsite these fires must be burned responsibly.

"In the City of Weyburn, there is a very specific bylaw that talks about what you can burn, the size of your fire, the size of your fire pit, the distances from other combustibles and things like that," says Weyburn Fire Chief Simon Almond. "As long as people comply with that bylaw then we should have no risk what so ever."

Safety is not the only concern for the Weyburn Fire Department, ensuring your fire doesn't disrupt other is another important issue.

"One thing we have been having issues with lately is with smoke," says Chief Almond. "The bylaw is very clearly worded, it says should smoke from your fire be bothering somebody else and we get a complaint then we will make you put your fire out."

Campfires are a wonderful summertime staple, just make sure you are enjoying them safely and respectfully.
