The City of Weyburn is continuing to grow, and that means more and more residential building in the city.

Last month, there were five new permits issues for residential construction, bringing the total for the year so far up to 23. That is a 120% increase over April of last year, when there were only nine underway.

Martino Verhaege is the Manager of Community Development with the city. He says that as areas such as The Creeks, Riverwood and Assiniboia Park come on line, we will see more and more houses go up. Such a rapid growth can present some challenges, though, according to Verhaege.

"The largest obstacle that you'll have with any high rate of growth is capitalization, and funding of that infrastructure," Verhaege said. "Our council has made a lot of hard decisions with regards to putting in off site development levies that are fair."

The infrastructure upgrades help to keep the new developments connected to city services, and make further development easier.
