The business community in Weyburn was celebrated Friday night as the Weybex Awards were presented, albeit in a slightly different format than from years past. The awards were presented virtually, with the ceremony being broadcast live online by MyAccess.  

There were three inductees into the Business Hall of Fame, which recognizes pioneer and cornerstone businesses in the community, who have also contributed to the economic well-being of Weyburn and the area. The inductees this year were Don’s Plumbing and Heating, R.P Automotive and East Wey Auto Body.  

The New or Expanded Business award, sponsored by Community Futures Sunrise, is presented to a business that was established or started, within the past three years. This year, the recipient of the award was Fido’s Doggy Daycare and Training Centre. 

The Golden Service Award, sponsored by MNP, is for a business that demonstrates excellence in the delivery of its products and services while being dedicated to customer satisfaction. This year, the recipient was Barber Motors. 

SaskEnergy sponsored the Community Involvement Award, which goes to the business that demonstrates outstanding performance in terms of contributing to recreation, amateur sports, arts and culture, healthcare and education. The recipient of the award this year was the Weyburn Oilwomen Association.  

The Business Leader of the Year Award, sponsored by Canalta and Ramada Hotels, honours business leaders that make positive impacts on their organization and push the company to excellence. This year, the award was presented to the CEO of the Weyburn Credit Union, Don Shumlich. 

The final award of the evening was the Business of the Year Award, which was selected from the finalists of the Golden Service, New or Expanded Business and Community Involvement Awards. This year, the Business of the Year Award, which is sponsored by Prairie Sky Co-op, went to Barber Motors.
