It may be the first day of autumn but winter weather may be hitting some areas of the province.

Although the Weyburn area is expected to see rain, Meteorologist with Environment Canada Terri Lang said anyone travelling north this weekend should prepare themselves for the white stuff.

"Farther to the north, if people are out and about, they should know that they may be running into some snow," said Lang. "Most of it is expected to melt, not accumulate, and of course it will be gone soon but just that FYI for people that are driving and, of course, it's the weekend so people are out and about."

She said temperatures are below average for this time of year and the snow is coming earlier than usual as well.

"Averages for this time of year, 30-year averages for highs, are around 17 and I think we're going to struggle even to get into the low teens even over the next week," shared Lang.

The cool pattern doesn't show any signs of shifting, according to Lang.

"I think we're going to be stuck in this pattern for a while."
