The new Credit Union Spark Centre building was designed to include an indoor playground which the City labels as "soft play" to keep kids as safe as possible.

Back in September of 2020, it was announced that the indoor play and climb space was going to be named the MNP Play Centre as local business MNP will be contributing $150,000 over the next 10 years for the naming rights and signage.

This new play place for local and visiting children will be a major attraction when the recreation and cultural centre opens next month.

The Credit Union Spark Centre will be a multi-purpose sports, culture and recreation facility that will offer a number of interior features such as the MNP Play Centre, a huge exercise track, an art gallery, pottery studio, multi-use indoor sports field and an outdoor ice surface.

The MNP Centre will have a gigantic indoor playground that features multiple levels of tunnels, obstacles, climbing walls, slides and other features while following safe design standards to achieve
inclusive play for children two to 12 years of age.

"It stands 19 feet high and has a footprint of roughly 28 by 45 feet with the capacity rating to accommodate up to 220 kids at any given time," stated Andrew Crowe, Director of Leisure Services for the City of Weyburn. "The indoor playground will be open upon the opening of the Credit Union Spark Centre. We will come out with more information on our opening times in a few weeks here."

This indoor safe space for children to let loose will offer four different levels of fun playground equipment, three 15 foot climbing walls, Accessibility & ADA compliance, Low maintenance and high durability, vandal-resistant tuff skin padding and netting, and regular cleaning.

Since the safety of the children is the main priority of this facility the City has made sure to have the structure and all of its components ASTM, CSA & CPSC Certified.

The indoor playground project was awarded to Orca Coast Playgrounds Inc. of Port Coquitlam BC, in the amount of $360,950 plus applicable taxes.

The selected design includes a wide variety of play elements, has the largest footprint, and utilizes the space provided the most effectively based on the City's requirements.

We will update you on the MNP Play Centre when more information becomes available.

The MNP Play Centre will be opening this fall in Weyburn at the new Credit Union Spark Centre.
