Each month throughout the school year, Grade 9 students from Jodie Johnston's class at St. Michael's School visited residents of Tatagwa Nursing Home.

"We come once a month and do different activities with the residents. We go take them for walks when the weather's nice. We do play bingo, charades," said Johnston. "Our main focus this year was the legacy project, and then doing the art project as well."

The students were paired up with residents to work on documenting their lives in the form of legacy scrapbooks. The students got to know the residents and learned how different the times once were.

"Our generation is more privileged because we have internet," said student Reid Glennie. "They didn't have anything. You could have written letters or something, but you'd have to walk or bike to the places you'd want to go."

"We got to learn how they got to achieve the goals that they got to do," said student Darcy Klein. "They grew up in a different time and they had different things going on and different things happening. It was just sort of given to us. They had to work a lot harder to get to where they were."

This year, they also created another art piece to adorn the walls of the nursing home. The newest piece, entitled, "Waves of Time" hangs in the hallway near the Chat-a-way Recreation room at Tatagwa View.
